Ahh...The Kern River

Like many of us, I rarely get a couple of days away.  But this past week I was lucky enough to take a WONDERFUL trip up to the Kern River!  It was heaven relaxing by the water, reading the New Yorker and enjoying the fantastic local restaurants.  We stayed at a historic location called McNally's, where there was a waiting list for rooms  - there are only 6 plus a cabin - (on a Tuesday night!) and the absolute best cuts of steak around.  I highly recommend this beautiful spot to anyone looking for a place to unwind!  It isn't 5 stars, but way better than camping and the food is wonderful.  http://www.mcnallysfairviewlodge.com/McNallys/Home.html 
         

Isabelle Perrin's Los Angeles Concert!

Isabelle Perrin wil be performing on Sunday the 26th at 5pm, at the First Baptist Church in Pasadena.  Tickets are $20 and $15.
Directions: 75 North Marengo Avenue
between Holly and Union streets, north of Colorado Boulevard
     -210 freeway, Marengo exit (between Lake and Fair Oaks avenues)
     -South on Marengo, two lights to Holly Street
     -West 1/2 block to Holly Street Garage
     -parking is free with church validation
She will be holding a master class on saturday the 25th at 2pm, at a venue still to be arranged.  Paticipants $60 and auditors $25.  Everyone is welcome to attend as audience, although there will only be 6 participants. Please RSVP if you plan to come.

Choose a venue that can house your guests with enough room for everyone. Of course, you don’t want a messy and crowded gathering. Also, it should be equipped with amenities and facilities for your comfort and convenience.

Accessibility
Never make it difficult for your guests to get to the to the place of your event. The venue should be easily reached by everyone. A place that is in or near the city, or has a close proximity to places like the CBD or notable establishments is always accessible.

Ambience
Mood is important in an event. Also, it should be versatile enough to suit any theme of an event.

Added services
It’s always a good thing to get added services in arranging and executing the event. It would be great if the staff is composed of experts in the field of event organizing, or can reccomend a good event coordinator. Paying attention to every detail and carrying it out perfectly is important.

Practicality

Lastly and most importantly, you should think of practicality. Always bear in mind that you don’t have to splurge a fortune just to have a great time. Choose a location that excels at everything that is mentioned above yet offers budget-friendly rates at the same time.
 

  
Australian harpist Carolyn Sykes has been performing in Australia, Asia, Europe and the United States for the past 30 years.  She came to Los Angeles fifteen years ago to study for her Masters Degree at the California Institute of the Arts.  Since then she has established her private teaching and performing studio Pacific Harps, teaching, supplying harps and performing in orchestras, on concert stages and for special events, both locally and abroad.  Carolyn plays solo, as well as with other instruments such as flute, bass, violin and string ensembles and vocalists.

Armory Center for the Arts: International Mail Art Show 

This show features a unique perspective on the world of art as well as culture.  The exhibit features over 600 pieces of mail art from over 25 countries!  Mail art (since I didn't know this before either) is art which uses the postal system as a medium, typically in the form of illustrated letters, rubberstamped, decorated or illustrated envelopes, artist trading cards, faux postage, and three-dimensional objects.  This exhibition has also allowed the inclusion of a form we that we wouldn't know how to live without - email!  Admission to the Armory’s Caldwell Gallery is a suggested donation of just $5, and Armory members, students, seniors and parents of Armory students are free.  Find out more at www.armoryarts.org - enjoy!
