Hectic Holiday Memories!

Whew! What a rush of business we had over the holidays! We are happy and excited to have made it through our first very successful holiday season, and wanted to highlight some of our performers that recently entertained in December. Our clients (and us too, as always!) loved working with our very talented rock/dance music and tribute band Republic of Music, as well as our hypnotist Twy and magician Matt - while Santa Claus in his turbo sleigh was of course very busy visiting all the little boys and girls in Cerritos. Thank you to all our wonderful performers and fabulous clients who made our holiday season bright!

Watson Adventures' Naked at the Getty Scavenger Hunt

Celebrate Valentine's Day with Watson Adventures on a Valentine's Day scavenger hunt for nudity at the Getty Center in LA. Teams of two to six people will discover secrets hidden in works of art involving nudity while tackling witty, tricky questions. No knowledge of art - or nudity - is needed to succeed.

Venice Valentine's Scavenger Hunt
This biking scavenger hunt through Venice Beach is designed for teams of two to get to know each other's intellectual side while enjoying a day out exploring. There are prizes for the top three teams. Bikes are available for rent, or you can bring your own.

Valentine Tea and Tunes at The Banning Museum

The Banning Museum will host its annual Valentine's afternoon tea with sandwiches and sweets served on antique tea sets, live music and house tours. The Banning Museum is the 23-room 1864 Greek Revival residence of Phineas Banning, who was instrumental in building the Port of Los Angeles.

Valentine's Dance Under the Wings of Reagan's Air Force One

If you're looking for an unusual place to celebrate Valentine's Day in the LA area, and you don't mind spending it with a couple hundred other people, consider spending it at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library. The Reagan Library's Valentine's Day Sweetheart's Dinner and Dance will be held on the grounds of the Library where tables for two will be set up under the wings of President Reagan's Air Force One airplane, which is on permanent display. Tickets include museum entrance, dinner, dancing to live music and a rose in a bud vase to take home. Commemorative photos will be available for purchase.
When: Tuesday, February 14, 2012, 6-9:00 pm

Victorian Valentine Tour at the Grier Musser Museum

Victorian Valentine's Day traditions from antique valentines to kewpie dolls and teddy bears will be on display. The Grier Musser Museum is a restored Victorian house in Downtown Los Angeles. Admission includes tour and refreshments. Reservations recommended.

Music for Events owner Carolyn Sykes began her journey in the music industry as a harpist, performing in Australia, Asia, Europe and the United States. She came to Los Angeles where she was highly successful in establishing her own private teaching and performing studio Pacific Harps, teaching, supplying harps and performing in orchestras, on concert stages and for special events, both locally and abroad. As a Liberace protégé, Lisa Ado’s first performance at age nine was alongside him at Radio City Music Hall. Breaking every attendance record ever set, she has since played in major venues and resorts around the world from The Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel to The Peninsula, The Phoenician, The Montage, The Ritz-Carlton and The Four Seasons, and has toured Sweden four different times. She has performed in movies with Lauren Bacall, Dan Aykrod, James Garner, Jack Lemmon and Wilford Brimley, and performed for royalty, celebrities, international dignitaries and Fortune 200 corporations across the United States as well as made regular appearances on shows such as ‘Seinfeld’ and ‘Ellen.’ Known for her musical diversity, class, and innate ability to read her audience, Lisa’s piano and vocal repertoire ranges from buttery-smooth instrumentals to timeless standards and jazz to R&B and contemporary music.

Brazilian guitarist Marco Utio is a graduate of Seminários de Música Pró-Arte, a prestigious music school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since coming to Los Angeles, he has performed for celebrities such as Janet Jackson, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Oscar de la Renta, and Magic Johnson, as well as opened for pop singer Sheryl Crow and recorded music for the soundtrack of New Line Cinema’s “Wedding Crashers.” Combining cool and pretty melodies in tasteful harmonies enlivened by a pallet of Brazilian rhythms and a tinge of jazz, Marco’s repertoire encompasses music from the Gipsy Kings to Enrique Iglesias and more.

Gypsy is the dynamic flamenco duo of Arleen Suntado and Benjamin Wills. As artists and virtuosos in their craft, they have both toured much of the world performing and teaching authentic flamenco and flamenco fusion, and their innovative, intense performance of this art of southern Spain as well as the lively music of the Gipsy Kings has made this duo highly requested in venues all across California. Arleen colors the stage with dramatic, powerful and sensual dancing as well precise machine-gun footwork and percussion. Benjamin’s exceptional talent as a flamenco guitarist, accompanying with astonishing technical ability and inventiveness on guitar with raspy vocals reminiscent of Andalucia, has brought people to tears and audiences to their feet with the profound, almost telepathic synergy they share on stage.

With musicians from the best American and European conservatories, Worldwide Strings has performed at more than 1500 events over the course of ten years. Their repertoire, which spans over 400 songs, includes a multitude of styles including classical, jazz, world music and custom arrangements of pop/rock songs from The Beatles to Coldplay and more. Worldwide Strings also offers a variety of instrument arrangements and can accommodate both background and dance music, providing duos, trios, and quartets as well as other sounds such as trumpet, flute, piano, clarinet, vocals and more.

Artist ID 70730: Carolyn Sykes

Award-winning Australian harpist Carolyn Sykes has been providing high class entertainment at weddings, funerals, celebrations, ceremonies and corporate functions in Los Angeles and around the world for over 30 years. With an MFA in Harp Performance, she has toured performing on cruise ships for Royal Viking Line and Crystal Cruises as well as appeared at the Soka International Harp Festival and Nippon Harp Competition in Soka City, Japan. With skills ranging from pop to jazz and latin music, her extensive repertoire and planning experience will enable you to create the special atmosphere you desire.

Artist ID 70746: William Weitler

Virtuoso William Weitler is one of only a handful of glass armonica players worldwide. Invented in 1761 by Benjamin Franklin, the mesmerizing sound of this instrument was a favorite of royals such as the Princess of Czechoslovakia and Marie Antoinette until it disappeared in the mid 1800s. Through the efforts of William and others, the glass armonica is being slowly rediscovered in venues across the world where he has been commissioned to compose and perform music, such as the Seattle Philharmonic and the Akron Symphony, on the soundtracks of numerous films alongside actors such as Michael Douglas, Peter Fonda and Kris Kristofferson, and in venues across the country from the Getty Research Institute and Franklin Institute to Warner Brothers Studios and the California State Capitol. William’s instrument is custom built and was a year in the making, containing 44 glass bowls mounted on a hand crafted stand of cherry and oak. The sound of the glass armonica is both mysterious and soothing, and from Tchaikovsky to Rachmaninov and Bach, William’s repertoire includes a vast range of classical music as well as original compositions to create the atmosphere you desire.
